A mountain eBike, or electric mountain bikes (eMTB), is an electrically assisted version of the mountain bikes many of us are familiar with. Electric bikes are a sort of equalizer. It’s hard to enjoy a long ride with friends if the group has varying levels of physical fitness. Those of us with less than optimal physical fitness can keep up with our more athletic companions with help from an eBike.
Mountain eBikes generally have three modes. They can be ridden as regular bikes, in pedal-assist mode with varying levels of motor assistance, or in full-throttle mode that lets the motor do all the work.
Electric bikes designed for smooth, paved streets and sidewalks have different features than bikes meant for gravel roads or trails in the wilderness. An eBike built for comfort and stability is fine for urban settings or light trail riding. However, downhill freeriding and mountain racing are more like the extreme sports of the eBike world, and their bikes should be built for plenty of action.
Fat Tire Mountain Biking
Fat tires let eBike riders travel in locations and conditions that may prove challenging for regular tires. Wider tires run at lower pressure to move easily over soft surfaces, such as snowy or wet terrain and sand. Fat tires also provide a smoother ride than regular tires.
Tire pressure lets you fine-tune performance. Low pressure is best for extremely soft conditions. Increase pressure to improve handling over firm or rough terrain. Ambitious riders can alter tire pressure multiple times during a ride over changeable terrain.
The SWAGTRON® EB8 is a reliable fat-tire electric bike. It’s great for daily commutes and a bit of trail riding. Its 4-inch wide tires have just enough extra width to provide a better grip and improved steering performance than standard road tires. Shimano® gears activate at the push of the button, so you can quickly adjust to slope changes.

Trail Riding
We all know someone that runs or rides regularly and considers exhaustion a desirable goal. These people frequently talk about endorphins. Electric bikes are a great invention for those of us that love the outdoors but find no enjoyment whatsoever in being exhausted.
Long trail rides can be discouraging when thoughts of “I still have to ride back” set in. Mountain eBikes, such as the SWAGTRON EB8 and the EB6, banish those discouraging thoughts. Riding back on the return trip no longer means pedaling back. You can pedal during part of the trip and use pedal-assist or throttle modes when you feel tired.
SWAGTRON EB8 & EB6 eMTB
The EB8 and EB6 off-road eBikes let you explore trails and take your adventure far outside the world of sidewalks and paved roads. A high-torque 350-watt motor powers three riding modes with a maximum speed of 18.6 mph. On a single battery charge, you can travel up to 21.4 miles in throttle-only mode on the EB8 and up to 20 miles on the EB6. Need to go farther, faster? Switch to pedal-only mode and conserve battery power. Doing that also lets you reap the benefits of cycling as exercise.
For shorter and/or younger riders, the SWAGTRON EB6 has virtually the same build and craftsmanship as the EB8, but in a slightly smaller frame. (The size of your eBike is important. It directly affects your riding experience, from comfort to control. And that’s especially important when trail riding.)

All Mountain
On a full day of mountain biking, you’ll stumble across all sorts of unexpected “discoveries,” from sudden dips to rough descents and steep ascents. All-mountain bikes are designed for versatility and performance to handle those variations in terrain. Powerful motors let you race over trails and handle steep climbs easily. They usually – but not always – feature full-suspension systems. That system delivers extra balance, control and reliability over rough terrain and challenging trails. They are, after all, meant to be ridden harder and pushed farther than other MTB bikes.
Mountain Racers
Enduro-styled eBikes, also referred to as mountain racers, are known for speed and acceleration. Most eBikes in this series offer four modes of travel, as opposed to the usual three.
Downhill Free Riding
Freeriding downhill requires rugged eBikes and good reflexes. Downhill electric bikes are designed for jumps, off-roading and speed. These models are for riders intentionally seeking out harsher terrain, as opposed to light trail riding or commuting.
If you’re an adventurer at heart, try one of these rugged eBike models. You can enjoy the thrills of trail riding and deep woods exploration without the frustration of trying to pedal up a forest path on muscle power alone.
